Software Engineer

Role Overview

You’ll join Fieldguide as a Software Engineer focused on agent infrastructure and tooling. The role centers on building an internal platform that makes agentic/AI workflows reliable, measurable, and easy for teams to adopt—while improving developer experience for AI workflows.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

• Build & maintain an internal platform that supports reliable, easy-to-adopt agentic workflows.
• Make the right way to use AI the easy way by improving:
  • onboarding
  • documentation
  • feedback loops
• Instrument and measure performance, including:
  • efficiency metrics
  • agent effectiveness
  • team productivity
• Run structured trials of new tools (evaluations / experiments).
• Enable an AI-native engineering culture through platform thinking and measurable iteration.

Requirements

• Deep, hands-on experience with AI coding tools, having used tools like:
  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • Codex (and similar)
• Bias toward measurement: instrument, measure, iterate based on data (not subjective impressions).
• Strong engineering fundamentals: build reliable internal tools, integrations, and debug production systems.
• Systems thinking / platform impact: connect local developer workflows to org-wide velocity.
• Ability to influence without authority, partnering across engineering, product, design, and others via documentation, examples, and results.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience building knowledge systems (e.g., search, RAG, internal documentation platforms).
• Experience with LLMOps practices such as:
  • eval frameworks
  • prompt regression testing
  • cost/performance tracking
• Track record rolling out internal tools across teams (adoption playbooks, change management).
• Familiarity with security & compliance for AI-enabled workflows (data access boundaries, governance, observability).
• Background in platform engineering or developer experience.
