About the role

Role overview

Evolent is hiring a Software Engineer for an Agile team building healthcare-focused backend software. You’ll design and develop scalable backend services, create event-driven/serverless solutions, and build data ingestion pipelines to support reporting and analytics across the healthcare ecosystem.

What you’ll be doing

Design and develop scalable backend services using Python and FastAPI
Build event-driven and serverless solutions using Microsoft Azure (e.g., Azure Functions, Azure Event Hub)
Develop and maintain data ingestion pipelines loading healthcare data into Microsoft Fabric for enterprise reporting/analytics
Participate in architecture/design discussions and author/review design documentation
Collaborate with product owners, QA, and engineers in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives)
Assist with testing, debugging, and validation to meet quality, performance, and regulatory expectations
Modernize and optimize existing systems, including performance tuning legacy SQL stored procedures
Use GitHub workflows to support CI/CD, code reviews, and automated quality checks
Write unit tests to improve coverage and maintainability
Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to solve problems and improve productivity

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain data-driven applications using Python and modern frameworks
Build and optimize API-based solutions (FastAPI, Django, Flask)
Develop and maintain ETL/data pipelines using Azure and analytics tooling (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, PySpark)
Write clean, maintainable, best-practice code
Translate product requirements into technical specifications
Perform code reviews and troubleshoot/debug production issues
Optimize for performance, scalability, and reliability
Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and tools

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience
3+ years in software engineering or data engineering
Strong Python skills and experience building API-based solutions (FastAPI, Django, Flask)
Hands-on experience with Azure data services (posting is truncated after “Azure Data Factor …”)
