Software Engineer

Role Overview

Coinbase is hiring Software Engineers for its Developer Infrastructure group. You’ll build and operate foundational platform services that enable Coinbase engineers to build, test, ship, and run software—covering CI/build systems, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

• Build, ship, and operate features in core developer-infrastructure services (CI/build, deployment orchestration, and test infrastructure).
• Improve key engineering metrics such as build/CI wall time, deploy speed and safety, and test feedback time/flakiness.
• Own well-scoped components end-to-end: implementation, testing, rollout, and monitoring.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Write high-quality, well-tested, observable production code.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to translate pain points into concrete platform improvements.
• Contribute to technical design discussions and independently drive work items to completion.
• Share knowledge, perform thoughtful code reviews, and raise the quality bar.

Required Skills and Experience

• 2+ years building and operating production software.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems.
• Proficiency (or strong ramp ability) in Go (or similar languages).
• Demonstrated ownership shipping backend/platform features relied on by other engineers/services.
• Operational instincts around reliability, security, and observability.
• Clear communication and ability to drive scoped projects to completion with limited guidance.
• Customer-focused mindset: success measured by impact to other engineers.
• Exposure to developer infrastructure/platform domains such as CI/CD, build systems, release tooling, test infrastructure, or developer productivity engineering.
• Experience with Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or containers (Docker/OCI).
• Experience with observability/performance tooling such as Datadog.
• Ability to use generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Location / Work Model

• Remote-first, but not remote-only.
• Quarterly in-person intensive working sessions called “surges.”

Compensation (Base Salary)

• $152,405 – $179,300 USD annual base salary (equity/bonus eligibility and benefits may apply).
