Backend-leaning Software Engineer at Vercel building scalable, high-performance services for user, group, and membership management with strong security and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain secure and reliable backend systems at high scale.
  • Develop identity synchronization and lifecycle management using SCIM and related standards.
  • Implement and operate services including participation in scheduled on-call rotations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver large-scale projects with dependencies.
  • Build enterprise services using TypeScript, REST APIs, and JSON.
  • Work with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Kubernetes, etc.) to deliver scalable, high-availability applications.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js.
  • Strong security architecture knowledge, including LDAP, Active Directory, SAML, SSO, OAuth2, OpenID Connect and web protocols (XML, SOAP, JSON, REST).
  • Familiarity with access control models: RBAC, ABAC, ReBAC.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Practical experience developing and improving Node.js applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to haves / additional signals

  • Experience working with cloud-native databases (SQL and NoSQL) and AWS.

Location / work setup

  • SF, NY, London, Berlin commuting-distance candidates have in-office anchor days Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
  • Candidates beyond that distance are fully remote.
