About the role
Role
Backend Software Engineer on the Chronosphere team (Palo Alto Networks company), working on an observability platform for modern, containerized infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Influence how customers use observability tools to improve infrastructure and service architecture
- Build platform features using AI infrastructure, including large language models and machine learning
- Design systems to contextualize large telemetry datasets and improve insights
- Contribute to architecture, scaling, performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency of distributed systems
- Develop and enhance internal monitoring and alerting to improve system observability
- Collaborate with technical teams and customers to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions
- Mentor junior engineers and uphold engineering standards
- Participate in product development cycles from planning through deployment and maintenance
Requirements
- Strong backend experience with Go, Java, Python, or Rust
- Experience developing highly available, scalable systems in production
- Hands-on cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Ability to design and develop APIs: REST, gRPC, and/or GraphQL
- Proven collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Experience managing projects end-to-end
- Ability to work independently with good judgment on when to seek guidance
- Experience working in a remote-first environment
Nice to Have
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor or Claude
