About the role

Role Overview

Backend engineer for WeaveGrid’s clean energy SaaS products that monitor and manage distributed energy resources (DERs) for electric utilities. You will independently design, implement, and deploy backend systems while helping set technical direction and improve engineering quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce high-quality backend code focused on robustness, testability, and maintainability
  • Develop deep ownership of backend services, including long-term reliability and technical debt management
  • Integrate with device manufacturer APIs and utility data sources; ingest, aggregate, and integrate signals
  • Implement monitoring/understanding of battery status and scheduling/verifying optimal charge/discharge plans
  • Partner with Product Managers and business stakeholders to deliver scalable platform features for DERMS capabilities
  • Improve system reliability, data quality, scalability, and collaborate across multiple codebases
  • Perform production rollouts with instrumentation, alerting, and reliability monitoring
  • Build new partner capabilities by reusing and generalizing modules
  • Operate and maintain infrastructure using Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GitHub, Jira/Confluence, CircleCI
  • Participate in on-call rotations (about once per quarter) to monitor, diagnose, and triage production issues
  • Support team prioritization by proposing improvements (new capabilities, reliability investments, and technical debt reduction)

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering (or related)
  • Ability to independently deliver complex backend systems end-to-end
  • Available for collaboration during standard US West Coast working hours if working remotely
  • Ownership mindset and strong software craft
  • Ability to leverage AI tools effectively while maintaining strong engineering judgment to catch AI errors

Preferred / Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building systems that interact with real-world devices/data and handling operational complexity
  • Experience working with cloud-native microservices and production reliability practices
