About the role
Role Overview
Software Engineer – Backend (Contract) (Remote) Review and improve AI-generated backend code and build server-side/API solutions across multiple languages and frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate AI-generated backend code for:
- correctness, efficiency, scalability, and clarity
- Write high-quality backend solutions for server-side and API development problems (varying difficulty)
- Explain architectural decisions and logic clearly for developer audiences
- Identify and flag edge cases or ambiguities in prompts, problem statements, or AI responses
Requirements
- Fluent English with strong written communication skills
- Ability to clearly explain backend coding concepts
- Backend expertise, including:
- server-side languages/frameworks (Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
- RESTful APIs
- databases
- asynchronous programming
- 3–5 years of backend experience (backend frameworks/tools/domains such as Express, Django, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or pursuing)
- Master’s/PhD preferred (not required)
Nice to Have / Bonus
- Experience with data labeling
- Experience with RLHF or other AI training projects
Work Model
- Fully remote and asynchronous
- Minimum 15 hrs/week
- Hourly engagement for contract work
Interview Process
- English screening with an AI interviewer (Zara)
- Domain-specific assessment(s) covering backend expertise including:
- distributed systems
- microservices
- backend frameworks
