About the role

Role overview

Software Engineer – Backend (Contract), fully remote and asynchronous (minimum 15 hrs/week). You’ll help evaluate and write backend code that supports AI data and model development work.

Responsibilities

Review and evaluate AI-generated backend code for correctness, efficiency, scalability, and clarity (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
Write high-quality backend solutions for server-side and API development across varying difficulty levels
Provide clear, developer-friendly explanations for architectural decisions, code logic, and problem-solving approaches
Identify and flag edge cases and ambiguities in problem statements or AI responses

Requirements

Fluent English with strong written communication and ability to explain backend concepts clearly
Backend expertise including:
- Server-side languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
- RESTful APIs, databases, and asynchronous programming
3–5 years of backend experience (backend frameworks/tools/domains such as Express, Django, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms are a plus)
Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in Computer Science or related field (Master’s/PhD preferred)

Nice-to-haves

Experience with data labeling, RLHF, or other AI training projects

Interview process

Screen with Zara (AI interviewer) in English
Domain-specific interview assessing backend expertise, including distributed systems and microservices

Work setup

Fully remote, asynchronous
Flexible workload; success is judged by clear outcomes and autonomy
