Software Engineer - Backend

Role overview

Software Engineer – Backend (Contract) Remote-first role (United States preferred) focused on reviewing and writing backend code that supports AI data/labeling workflows.

What you’ll do

• Review and evaluate AI-generated backend code for correctness, efficiency, scalability, and clarity (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, or Go).
• Write high-quality backend solutions for server-side and API development across varying difficulty levels.
• Create clear, developer-friendly explanations for:
  • architectural decisions
  • code logic
  • problem-solving strategies
• Identify and flag edge cases or ambiguities in problem statements or AI responses.

Requirements

• Strong written English communication and ability to explain backend concepts clearly.
• Deep backend expertise including:
  • server-side languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
  • RESTful APIs
  • databases
  • asynchronous programming
• 3–5 years of experience with backend frameworks/tools/domains (plus):
  • Express, Django, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or pursuing) (Master’s/PhD preferred).

Nice to have

• Experience with data labeling, RLHF, or other AI training projects.

Work setup

• Fully remote & asynchronous; minimum 15 hrs/week.
• Rolling start based on active projects.
• Flexible, contractor engagement with autonomy and clear ownership.

Interview process

• English screening with an AI interviewer.
• Domain-specific interview/assessment covering backend expertise such as distributed systems and microservices.
