About the role

Role: Software Engineer - Backend (Contract)

Engagement: Hourly, at-will contractor
Schedule: Fully remote & asynchronous (min. 15 hrs/week)
Start: Rolling (staffed as projects launch)
Location preference: United States preferred (remote)

What you’ll do

Review and evaluate AI-generated backend code for correctness, efficiency, scalability, and clarity (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
Write high-quality backend solutions for server-side and API development across varying difficulty levels
Create clear, developer-friendly explanations for architectural decisions, code logic, and problem-solving approaches
Identify and flag edge cases or ambiguities in problem statements or AI responses

Requirements

Fluent English with strong written communication and ability to explain backend concepts clearly
Backend expertise with server-side languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
Experience with RESTful APIs, databases, and asynchronous programming
3–5 years of experience with backend frameworks/tools/domains (e.g., Express, Django, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or pursuing); Master’s/PhD preferred

Nice to haves

Experience with data labeling, RLHF, or other AI training projects
Experience in distributed systems and microservices

Interview process

English screening with Zara (AI interviewer)
Domain-specific Zara interview to assess backend expertise (including distributed systems, microservices, and backend frameworks)
