Role Overview

Software Engineer - Backend (Contract)

• Work style: Fully remote & asynchronous
• Engagement: Hourly, at-will contractor
• Availability: Minimum 15 hrs/week
• Pay range (US): $25–$100/hour
• Start: Rolling (as projects launch)

What You’ll Do

• Review and evaluate AI-generated backend code for correctness, efficiency, scalability, and clarity (examples include Node.js, Python, Java, Go).
• Write backend solutions for server-side and API development across varying difficulty levels.
• Provide clear, developer-friendly explanations of architecture decisions, code logic, and problem-solving approaches.
• Identify and flag edge cases and ambiguities in problem statements or AI responses.

Requirements

• Fluent English with strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain backend coding concepts clearly.
• Backend expertise, including:
  • Server-side languages/frameworks (Node.js, Python, Java, Go)
  • RESTful APIs
  • Databases
  • Asynchronous programming
• 3–5 years of backend development experience (backend frameworks/tools/domains such as Express, Django, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms) is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or pursuing); Master’s/PhD preferred but not required.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with data labeling, RLHF, or other AI training projects.

Interview Process

• Screening with Zara (AI interviewer) in English.
• Domain-specific interview/assessment focused on distributed systems, microservices, and backend frameworks.
