Software Engineer - Backend

Role Overview

Contract Backend Software Engineer (Remote, United States preferred). You will review and implement backend solutions that help power AI data and model development.

What You’ll Do

• Review and evaluate AI-generated backend code for correctness, efficiency, scalability, and clarity (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go).
• Write high-quality backend solutions for server-side and API development across varying difficulty levels.
• Provide clear, developer-friendly explanations for architectural decisions, code logic, and problem-solving strategies.
• Identify and flag edge cases or ambiguities in problem statements or AI responses.

Requirements

• Strong English and written communication skills.
• Ability to clearly explain backend coding concepts.
• Deep backend expertise: server-side languages/frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go), RESTful APIs, databases, and asynchronous programming.
• 3–5 years of experience with backend frameworks/tools/domains (e.g., Express, Django, Spring Boot, microservices, cloud platforms) is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or pursuing one). Master’s/PhD preferred but not required.

Nice to Have

• Experience with data labeling, RLHF, or other AI training projects.

Work Model

• Fully remote and asynchronous.
• Hourly, at-will contractor; minimum 15 hrs/week.
• Flexible workload—work from anywhere and on your own schedule.

Interview Process

• English screening with “Zara” (AI interviewer).
• Domain-specific interview/assessment focused on backend expertise, including distributed systems and microservices.
