About the role

Role Overview

Staff Software Engineer (Android) on the Digital Products team, providing strategic technical leadership for the architecture and continuous evolution of the Android platform. You will help shape the connected vehicle experience through scalable, high-quality Android applications and services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, maintenance, and deployment of Android applications for connected vehicle features.
  • Drive mobile technical architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable solutions from inception through production.
  • Define and execute the Android engineering strategy.
  • Establish and promote best practices for mobile development, including architectural consistency, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Oversee large-scale initiatives from conception to delivery while balancing near-term needs with long-term platform investment.
  • Mentor engineers and foster collaboration across engineering leadership, product management, design, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Promote engineering excellence through code quality, operational rigor, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience shipping customer-facing Android applications.
  • Strong Android development skills using Kotlin and Java.
  • Proficiency in mobile platform architecture and UI/UX design principles/frameworks.
  • Experience with GraphQL, mobile security, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and mobile release processes.
  • Proven technical leadership for large, complex, multi-team projects.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience operating in startup environments and launching new products.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Automotive industry experience.
  • Automation frameworks.
  • Cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
  • IoT-connected mobile applications.
