Role: Software Engineer, Agents & Automations

Build and maintain core product capabilities for North, Cohere’s AI workspace platform that connects AI agents to enterprise workplace tools.

North provides a secure, customizable environment that helps enterprises deploy AI while maintaining control over sensitive data. The Agents & Automations team develops the platform features that let customers create AI-powered workflows.

Responsibilities

Design, build, ship, and maintain core capabilities for the Agents & Automations platform.
Develop features to help users create, run, debug, evaluate, and improve agents and automations.
Own work end-to-end, from technical design through implementation, testing, launch, and iteration.
Work across the stack (frontend product surfaces, backend systems, and AI-powered systems) based on product needs.
Make practical engineering decisions balancing speed, quality, depth, and user impact.
Collaborate with product, design, modelling, customer-facing teams, and other engineers to define outcomes and deliver measurable improvements.
Use AI actively in your work while maintaining strong standards for quality and reliability.

Example problems

Turning natural-language intent into working automations.
Adding analytics for deployed agents.
Building better debugging tools for failed workflow runs.
Designing workflow primitives that simplify complex enterprise automations.

Requirements (what you bring)

Experience building, shipping, and operating production software used by real users/customers.
Comfort working across frontend, backend, product, data, and infrastructure boundaries.
Strong product judgment and attention to user experience.
High agency: act, tinker, learn quickly, and drive change.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a distributed, asynchronous team; document decisions clearly.
