About the role
Role Overview
You’ll be a mid-to-senior backend engineer working on Ramp’s accounting infrastructure. The work focuses on building backend services that power accurate financial statements, transaction synchronization, and rule-based categorization.
Responsibilities
- Build and own backend services powering Ramp’s accounting platform, including synchronizations and a rules engine
- Design scalable systems that process millions of transactions across spend flows (cards, bill payments, reimbursements, treasury)
- Establish technical foundations for AI agents to suggest and apply accounting categorizations
- Improve internal developer tooling to support efficient engineering delivery
- Partner with accounting teams and product stakeholders to translate business needs into clean, reliable code
Requirements
- Strong system design skills with an emphasis on reliability and service observability
- Comfort collaborating closely with accounting and product stakeholders
- Fluent in Python or another comparable modern backend language
- Experience designing and maintaining distributed systems with high data integrity requirements
- 3+ years backend engineering experience (fintech, accounting tech, or transactional systems preferred)
- Strong interest in infrastructure that balances precision, performance, and extensibility
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with financial integrations (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Oracle)
- Background in compliance-heavy systems or regulated domains
- Interest in collaborating with AI/ML teams on intelligent accounting features
