About the role

Role Overview

Symetra is hiring a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the team building a new Stop Loss platform. The role focuses on creating and expanding automated test coverage and ensuring quality through maintainable, scalable regression testing.

What You Will Do

  • Design, build, and expand automated test coverage for the Stop Loss platform
  • Develop and maintain scalable regression test suites to ensure application quality
  • Contribute to and improve existing test automation solutions based on team and platform needs
  • Leverage and extend Symetra’s QE automation platform, aligning with established standards and practices
  • Collaborate with development and QA teams to identify testing gaps and increase coverage
  • Ensure test automation is efficient, maintainable, and integrated into CI/CD for continuous delivery

What You Bring

  • 6–9 years of relevant experience in test automation/quality engineering (or related roles)
  • Hands-on experience building or contributing to automated test coverage for applications/platforms
  • Strong understanding of test automation fundamentals and ability to create regression suites independently
  • Experience with automation tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright for UI, API, or integration testing
  • Ability to create resilient, maintainable tests without brittle behavior as the product evolves
  • Comfort adopting and extending existing test automation platforms (rather than building from scratch)
  • Experience with enterprise QA automation platforms or shared testing frameworks
  • Collaboration skills working closely with developers and QA to improve coverage and quality
  • Proficiency using AI-assisted tools for test creation, debugging, and automation development
  • Problem-solving mindset focused on scalability, efficiency, and continuous improvement

Education

  • High school diploma required
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a related field

Compensation

  • $106,400 – $177,300 base salary, plus eligibility for an annual bonus

Location / Work Arrangement

  • Location listed as United States with flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements
