About the role
Role Overview
Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) joining the Editor team at Paperless Post, which builds the invitation and card creation tool. You will develop and maintain automated test frameworks focused on complex visual rendering, creative interactions, and browser edge cases.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain test automation for creative editing interfaces, including:
- Canvas-based interactions
- Drag-and-drop functionality
- Visual rendering validation
- Non-standard browser API behaviors
- Validate both functionality and creative output via visual and interaction testing (e.g., pixel-perfect rendering and responsive behavior).
- Integrate testing into the SDLC by collaborating with developers on unit/integration testing and participating in code reviews.
- Implement CI/CD test automation by integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Ensure quality through bug identification, documentation, tracking, and comprehensive testing.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, QA, and product teams to align test strategy to project goals.
- Analyze and improve test outcomes, provide quality feedback, and evaluate new tools/methodologies.
Requirements
- 6+ years as an SDET, Software Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (with React strongly preferred).
- Experience building automated test frameworks for web apps, especially interactive/visual-heavy applications.
- Strong understanding of browser APIs, DOM manipulation, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experience with frontend testing frameworks such as Playwright, Cypress, Jest, and/or React Testing Library.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build tools.
- Experience with source control (Git preferred).
- Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and communication/collaboration.
Nice to Have
- Testing experience for creative tools, design software, or canvas-based applications.
- Knowledge of visual regression testing and screenshot comparison tools.
- Experience with performance testing for frontend applications.
