About the role
Role
Remote Software Developer Web Applications IV (Applications Developer) for a mission-critical team supporting a federal client’s next-generation environmental data and weather/forecasting applications. The role involves leading web application development in the AWS cloud, building advanced meteorological visualization tools, and mentoring junior developers.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of complex web application components using advanced JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks
- Architect high-performance web solutions for meteorological data visualizations
- Implement sophisticated capabilities such as:
- Multi-layer maps
- Interactive weather data analysis tools
- Real-time data visualization
- Develop scalable backend services and APIs (AWS-based) to support web visualization
- Create efficient data processing pipelines for large meteorological datasets
- Establish and enforce coding standards, patterns, and best practices; perform thorough code reviews
- Mentor junior developers and ensure quality/knowledge transfer
- Optimize performance for complex datasets and real-time updates
- Collaborate with UX designers, meteorologists, and domain experts to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technology selection
Requirements (Basic)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of professional web application development
- Advanced knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js)
- Experience building complex, data-intensive web applications
- Experience with microservices-driven architecture on AWS
- Strong web application architecture and design patterns
- Experience with geospatial data visualization or interactive mapping applications
- Knowledge of RESTful API design and backend service development
- Expertise in AWS cloud services and serverless architecture
- Strong understanding of web performance optimization
- Experience leveraging Generative AI development tools, including prompting best practices and review of generated content
Nice-to-haves (Preferred)
- Experience with meteorological applications or scientific visualization tools
- Advanced WebGL/Three.js/Canvas visualization techniques
- D3.js or other advanced data visualization libraries
- Background in geospatial technologies (e.g., GeoJSON, mapping/spatial operations)
- Knowledge of weather data formats (e.g., GRIB, NetCDF)
