Role Overview

Software Developer — Android at TextNow. You will design and build high-performance Android systems and take technical ownership across mobile, backend, and data. The role emphasizes technical leadership, strategic thinking, and hands-on engineering—especially around AI and automation to accelerate development and improve production reliability.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop high-performance Android apps using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Java
• Lead architectural modernization through modularization and improved scalability for cross-platform reuse
• Own the full system lifecycle, including:
  • feature ideation
  • API design
  • instrumentation and telemetry
  • deployment (CI/CD)
  • live-traffic monitoring
  • unit, UI, and end-to-end (e2e) testing
  • user telemetry and data analysis
  • experiment design using A/B testing
  • continuous iteration
• Evolve architecture by proposing initiatives to decompose monoliths and build shared libraries/frameworks for Android, iOS, and Web
• Evaluate and adopt new Android platform capabilities (OS releases, device types, form factors, architectures)
• Apply AI-driven tools and automation for faster development, code analysis, testing, and reliability
• Define observability standards, telemetry pipelines, and fault-tolerance strategies
• Partner with product, design, backend, and data teams to deliver high-quality user experiences
• Drive technical discussions, mentor developers, and influence strategic direction across mobile platforms

Who You Are

• Technical leader capable of creating and leading roadmaps/initiatives aligned with business objectives
• Deep expertise in:
  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose
  • modern concurrency with Coroutines and Flows
• Proven ability to architect modular, maintainable systems balancing speed and reliability
• Strong background in performance optimization, observability, and system-level debugging
• Experience using AI and automation to improve developer velocity, reliability, or product intelligence
• Collaborative technical leader who thrives in fast-moving environments and mentors others
• Passion for building elegant, high-performance Android experiences
• Production-readiness mindset: instrumentation, SLOs/SLIs, fault-tolerance, runbooks, incident triage, scalable telemetry pipelines, and mobile production diagnostics
