About the role

Role Overview

Software/Application Architect is the technical anchor of the engineering team, responsible for the Azure environment and the end-to-end architecture that other systems depend on. This is a rare hands-on + big-picture role: you will both build with the team and set standards for architecture and implementation.

A defining aspect of the role is AI, including leveraging AI in the developer loop and integrating it into products.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Solutions Architect to own system architecture end to end (POC → design → production).
  • Translate business goals and product requirements into scalable, reliable architecture, and communicate direction to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on development in C# and Angular, while defining technical standards for the team.
  • Maintain architecture documentation (design decisions, system diagrams, technical specifications).
  • Own the Azure environment:
    • Deploy application workloads to production
    • Manage high-level Azure infrastructure
    • Maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Build and maintain fully automated CI/CD pipelines for web applications.
  • Champion security best practices and support SOC 2 compliance across the Azure environment.
  • Drive developer enablement by introducing and scaling AI-assisted development tooling, and integrate AI into products.
  • Own the quality bar via code and design reviews aligned to architectural standards.
  • Benchmark and tune performance to meet scalability, reliability, and SLA targets.
  • Coach and mentor engineers and grow team capability.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and adopt those that fit the organization.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years designing and implementing software applications, including large-scale projects, with time in an architecture or technical lead capacity.
  • Associate/bachelor’s in CS or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on engineering with architecture/technical leadership.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and application design patterns.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in distributed teams across time zones.
  • Comfortable in a hybrid/remote working environment.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including deploying workloads to production.
  • Strong grasp of Azure best practices, including the Azure Well-Architected Framework.
