Software Architect

Role Overview

You will work as a Software Architect / Staff Frontend Engineer (IC) focused on WebAssembly (WASM) and browser-native runtime architecture. The role is not people-management, but you will provide technical direction and mentorship while staying hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Architect a browser-native runtime with Node-like execution, task orchestration, and streaming I/O
• Design and build a high-performance virtual filesystem (in-memory + persistence, caching, module resolution)
• Integrate and optimize bundling and tooling pipelines for performance and iteration speed
• Drive measurable performance improvements across execution paths (e.g., cold start, incremental builds, memory)
• Design secure sandboxing and isolation for running untrusted code in the browser
• Provide technical direction and mentor engineers while remaining an individual contributor

Requirements

• 8–12+ years of experience building systems software in high-growth environments
• Experience as a Full-Stack or Frontend Engineer
• Strong WebAssembly (WASM) expertise, including:
  • ABI boundaries
  • Memory models
  • Host interfaces
• Deep browser platform/runtime knowledge (e.g., Workers, messaging, storage, isolation)
• Runtime engineering expertise: event loops, scheduling, concurrency, streaming I/O
• Proven experience integrating and optimizing JS/TS tooling pipelines
• Performance engineering discipline with measurable improvements (cold start, incremental builds, memory)
• Security experience running untrusted code in the browser
• Experience building high-performance virtual filesystems (in-memory + persistence, caching, module resolution)

Collaboration / Work Model

• Remote (US) with expectation to overlap with an India team via early mornings/evenings US time.
