Role overview
Agile Six is seeking a Software Architect (Technical Software Architect) to support the My HealtheVet (MHV) team on VA.gov, building an integrated patient portal experience for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
This is a Key Personnel role under the contract, meaning the selected architect is considered essential to work performance and is subject to government review/approval, including oversight for changes.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and maintain web and mobile solutions for the MHV project, evolving the overall architecture over time.
- Lead architecture and design decisions using modern patterns while handling legacy system integration.
- Ensure solutions meet needs for accessibility, modularity, scalability, and EHR integration.
- Collaborate in cross-functional Agile teams to deliver features aligned with user needs and the VA mission.
- Align engineering best practices across delivery teams (e.g., via an Engineering Community of Practice and/or consistent engineering standards).
- Establish strong relationships with VA counterparts.
- Support adoption of AI-powered coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and other enabling technologies (e.g., MCP servers, edge computing).
- Apply DevSecOps/DevOps practices and leverage cloud/automation to improve efficiency and quality.
- Lead challenging technical tasks, mentor teammates, and promote a collaborative environment.
- Participate in code reviews, pair coding, knowledge sharing, and training.
- Write automated unit and integration tests; assist with manual testing as needed.
- Work with the Product Owner and team to ensure work is described accurately and prioritized appropriately.
Required/expected skills
- Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, Node.js, GraphQL, and Git.
- Knowledge/experience with healthcare data standards and interoperability, including FHIR and HL7.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, including scalability, modularity, and accessibility.
- Ability to operate effectively in large-scale, cross-functional Agile teams.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for collaboration, mentoring, and alignment across teams.
- Practical familiarity with DevSecOps practices.
Nice-to-haves (implied)
- Experience integrating with EHR/EHR-like systems.
- Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
- Experience with emerging enabling technologies such as edge computing and MCP servers.
- Experience establishing or participating in engineering communities/standards across multiple teams.
