About the role

Role Overview

Senior Site Reliability Engineer / Systems Engineer (Contract) (Remote, United States) You will partner with the IST/System Engineering Team to improve monitoring, observability, incident response, and overall reliability of VA system infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the IST/System Engineering Team to deliver monitoring and observability recommendations based on KPI analysis.
  • Perform enterprise-level triage and incident resolution to support infrastructure operations.
  • Use modern monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Splunk, SolarWinds, and ServiceNow Operator Workspace to improve reliability and service quality.
  • Diagnose outages with system/application owners, DevOps, and network admins, and recommend reliability improvements.
  • Analyze workflows across multiple system environments and propose stability enhancements.
  • Conduct deep technical investigations with developers and identity/access teams.
  • Produce actionable insights to support improvements for veteran services.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years deep expertise in at least two enterprise troubleshooting/monitoring tools: Dynatrace, Splunk, SolarWinds, ServiceNow Operator Workspace.
  • 8+ years experience in IT operability, reliability, application performance, and code quality.
  • 8+ years deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex enterprise-scale applications.
  • 2+ years independently leading teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • 1+ years experience in service virtualization and AWS/Azure cloud; including SaaS/PaaS implementation.
  • Experience in at least one area: Network, Windows, Desktop, Unix/Linux, AWS/Azure, WebSphere, Java/JS, MS/Oracle DB.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Education/work equivalency: HS diploma/GED + 20+ years relevant experience, or MA/MS + 10+ years relevant experience.
  • SRE background, especially incident management.
  • Ability to communicate technical experience confidently with customers and in discussions.
  • Comfortable working in rapidly changing environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServiceNow experience.
  • Experience with test-driven development, distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager, Riverbed Aternity, and ServiceNow VTBs.
  • Virtual team management experience.
  • Public Trust Clearance.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and critical thinking/error assessment.
