About the role
Role Overview
As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Weedmaps, you will partner across application, infrastructure, and quality teams to improve the performance, reliability, resilience, and scalability of the services powering Weedmaps.com.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to drive best practices for monitoring and CI/CD pipelines
- Troubleshoot deployment issues in CI pipelines
- Reduce developer toil and improve deployment workflows and pipelines
- Configure and improve CI workflows and support multiple production releases per day
- Serve as a knowledge reference to ensure consistent tooling for metrics, logging, build, and deployment
- Define and instrument service-specific metrics (beyond golden metrics) and build libraries to help services easily instrument themselves
- Identify opportunities for automation and codify operational practices
- Create and refine synthetic monitoring flows
- Advocate for a DevOps culture across partner teams (including collaboration, reliability, security, and performance)
Requirements
- 2+ years of development experience at a startup or mid-sized company
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Node.js, Ruby, or Elixir
- Knowledge of containerization, especially Docker (Kubernetes is a plus)
- Strong communication skills and a constructive feedback mindset
- Experience with cloud-native observability standards such as OpenMetrics, OpenTracing, and OpenCensus
- Expertise configuring modern CI/CD workflows
- Deep understanding of SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs (service level to business level)
- Deep understanding of the golden metrics and alerting/monitoring
- Familiarity with GitHub branching strategy
- Experience troubleshooting containerized applications
Nice to Have (Bonus Points)
- Cloud infrastructure concepts (e.g., AWS, GCP)
- HashiCorp tools: Terraform, Consul, Vault
- Computer science or other engineering background
- CI tools experience (e.g., CircleCI, Jenkins, Travis, Drone, Semaphore)
- Observability tooling such as Prometheus, CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana
