About the role
Role Overview
Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Weedmaps. You will work cross-departmentally with application, infrastructure, and quality teams to improve the performance, reliability, resilience, and scalability of Weedmaps.com.
Weedmaps runs in the cloud with 100% of services in Docker on Kubernetes in AWS, shipping multiple production releases per day using observability/monitoring, CI/CD automation, and custom tooling.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to drive best practices for monitoring and CI/CD pipelines
- Troubleshoot deployment issues in the CI pipeline
- Promote a DevOps culture across partner teams
- Identify opportunities for automation and codify operational work
- Take ownership of application configuration and scaling for assigned services
- Create and refine synthetic monitoring flows
- Define and implement service-specific metrics (beyond golden metrics)
- Work with development teams to build instrumentation libraries for consistent metrics, logging, build, and deployment
- Serve as a knowledge reference for standard SRE tooling and practices
Requirements
- Minimum 2+ years of development experience at startup or mid-sized companies
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Node, Ruby, or Elixir
- Knowledge of containerization, especially Docker (Kubernetes is a plus)
- Strong communication skills and constructive collaboration mindset
- Experience with cloud-native observability standards such as OpenMetrics, OpenTracing, and OpenCensus
- Expertise using/configuring modern CI/CD workflows
- Strong understanding of SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs from service to business level
- Strong understanding of golden metrics and alerting
- Familiarity with GitHub branching strategy
- Ability to troubleshoot containerized applications
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and operational automation/configuration

- Cloud infrastructure concepts (e.g., AWS, GCP)
- HashiCorp tools: Terraform, Consul, Vault
- Experience with CI tools (e.g., CircleCI, Jenkins, Travis, Drone, Semaphore)
- Monitoring/observability tools such as Prometheus, CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana
- Computer science or other engineering background
