Shopify Architect (Remote)

Lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-scale eCommerce solutions on Shopify (including Shopify Plus and headless architectures).

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture and solution design for complex Shopify/Shopify Plus implementations.
• Define architecture that is scalable, secure, maintainable, and high-performing.
• Architect and implement Headless Commerce solutions using:
  • Shopify Hydrogen
  • React
  • Shopify Storefront APIs
• Build and oversee custom Shopify themes and applications using:
  • Liquid
  • React.js
  • Node.js
  • modern frontend frameworks
• Drive integration architecture between Shopify and enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, OMS, PIM, payment gateways, tax, shipping providers).
• Lead platform migrations to Shopify from platforms such as Magento, WooCommerce, SFCC, BigCommerce, or custom builds.
• Establish best practices for performance, SEO, accessibility, security, scalability, and maintainability.
• Perform architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical assessments.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, UX teams, and developers to translate requirements into solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers.
• Support estimation, solution proposals, documentation, and pre-sales discussions.
• Partner with DevOps teams on CI/CD, deployment strategies, monitoring, and infrastructure practices.
• Stay current with Shopify and Hydrogen advancements and eCommerce best practices.

Requirements

• 11+ years overall IT experience.
• 6+ years hands-on Shopify and Shopify Plus development and architecture.
• Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale enterprise eCommerce solutions.

Required Skills / Expertise

• Shopify: Shopify Plus, Shopify Liquid, Shopify Hydrogen, Storefront API, Admin API, Shopify Functions, Shopify CLI, Shopify app/theme development.
• Frontend: React.js, JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3/SCSS, Tailwind CSS, Next.js (preferred).
• Backend: Node.js, REST APIs, GraphQL, microservices architecture.
• Commerce architecture: Headless Commerce, Hydrogen/Oxygen, Jamstack concepts.
• Integrations: ERP (SAP/Oracle/Dynamics/NetSuite), CRM (Salesforce/HubSpot), OMS/PIM, payment gateways (Stripe/Adyen/PayPal/Authorize.net), shipping/fulfillment providers.
• DevOps/Cloud: CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions/GitLab CI/Jenkins, Docker, AWS/Azure/GCP, monitoring/logging.

Preferred Qualifications

• Shopify Plus certifications.
• Experience with Hydrogen/Oxygen implementations.
• Experience leading distributed development teams.
• Exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery.
• Understanding of multi-store/multi-region/multi-currency Shopify implementations.
