About the role
Role Overview
Senior UX Researcher (3 Month Contract) at Wikimedia Foundation. You will lead mixed-method UX research (primarily quantitative, with some qualitative components) to generate actionable insights that inform organizational and product decisions for Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate research work with the UX Research team point of contact, teammates, and stakeholders.
- Help scope projects as needed: goals, methodologies, logistics, and timelines.
- Build understanding of the product context and research objectives.
- Lead and execute all phases of the research process:
- Create research materials
- Coordinate research operations
- Manage participant recruitment / survey distribution
- Schedule and run research sessions (with interpretation support when appropriate)
- Oversee data collection and analysis
- Write and deliver research reports
- Translate findings into actionable insights and communicate results clearly to stakeholders.
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years as a UX Researcher.
- End-to-end expertise with quantitative UX research (e.g., surveys, large-scale unmoderated testing, large-scale diary studies, quantitative UX benchmarking).
- Strong statistical analysis and data visualization skills.
- End-to-end expertise with qualitative methods (e.g., interviews, contextual inquiry, diary studies).
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Experience leading research projects start to finish (individually and collaboratively).
- Ability to work with product teams to translate insights into recommendations.
Nice-to-Haves
- Fluency in languages other than English.
- Experience working with volunteer or open source communities.
- Experience editing Wikipedia or contributing to other wiki projects.
Contract & Availability
- 3-month contract covering staff leave; part-time ~30 hours/week.
- Must be available for critical meetings and synchronous work 15:00–19:00 UTC.
- Occasional meetings and work outside local business hours may be needed during data collection.
