Senior Technical Product Owner

Role Overview

Turnitin is hiring its first Sr. Technical Product Owner (TPO) on the Engineering Plan team. In this role, you will bridge business outcomes and technical execution, driving a core technical product roadmap across multiple engineering teams in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Execution

• Deep-dive into the technical domain, including system architecture, service mesh, and infrastructure components.
• Shape technical strategy and contribute to the long-term roadmap to ensure sustained product health.
• Partner with engineering leaders to balance new feature delivery with system maintenance, security, and performance tuning.
• Improve delivery workflows by analyzing plan/build processes and removing bottlenecks to optimize the delivery pipeline.

Collaboration & Alignment

• Translate product vision from multiple Product Managers into outcome-based technical epics.
• Identify and resolve inter-roadmap conflicts and resource contention across competing feature priorities.
• Advise on scope trade-offs and technical feasibility using data on capacity, dependencies, and risk.
• Provide delivery visibility with detailed line-of-sight into execution status and delivery targets.

Requirements / Profile

• Seasoned experience as a technical product owner with strong ability to influence engineering roadmaps.
• Strong technical understanding of distributed systems and infrastructure concepts (including architecture and service mesh).
• Proven ability to prioritize and manage technical debt while advocating for proactive system health.
• Experience working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering across time zones.

• Demonstrated record of improving engineering delivery workflows and reducing bottlenecks in plan/build processes.
