About the role

Role Overview

Senior Systems Developer (Angular) to build and evolve a cloud-based web dashboard for processing and displaying healthcare EDI transactions for the Veterans Affairs (VA) department.

Responsibilities

Build, support, and migrate a cloud-based web dashboard that processes healthcare EDI transactions
Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs (Java and/or Node.js) to retrieve, transform, and serve EDI healthcare records
Integrate with internal platform APIs, EDI processing pipelines, and data services to deliver live and historical transaction data
Develop and maintain an Angular-based dashboard front-end that consumes APIs and surfaces data accurately to business and clinical users
Collaborate with back-end C#/.NET and AWS data engineers to define API contracts and ensure reliable data delivery
Write clean, testable, well-documented code and participate in code reviews
Perform unit and integration testing across API and back-end service layers
Support deployment, monitoring, and performance of back-end services in production on AWS
Apply best engineering practices in an Agile environment

Required Skills / Experience

8+ years of software development with strong back-end focus (Java and/or Node.js)
8+ years designing and consuming RESTful APIs in healthcare or enterprise environments
Hands-on Angular experience; able to integrate APIs and contribute to front-end components
Strong experience building services that serve structured EDI/healthcare data to front-end applications
Proficiency in Java and/or JavaScript/TypeScript/Node.js for API design, data transformation, error handling, and performance
Experience consuming structured data formats like XML/JSON via REST APIs
Hands-on AWS/Azure experience (e.g., API Gateway, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch)
Git/GitHub proficiency (branching, pull requests, collaborative workflows)
Unit/integration testing experience (e.g., JUnit, Jest, or equivalent)
Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration for API requirements
Agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban) and Jira
Ability to work independently and in a distributed team
Strong focus on data accuracy and fidelity for healthcare records
Ability to conduct and support code reviews
U.S. citizenship required; Public Trust level clearance required

Nice-to-Haves / Desired

Experience with EDI X.12 and medical claims (837/834/277, etc.)
Familiarity with web document submission processes
Experience in fast-paced DevOps environments
Familiarity with healthcare payer / PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations
Knowledge of HIPAA compliance for API and web apps
Accessibility knowledge (Section 508 / WCAG 2.1) for government-facing apps
Experience with containerization (Docker, ECS, EKS)
