Senior Staff Software Engineer

Role Overview

Join ServiceNow as a Senior Staff Software Engineer focused on app lifecycle management. You’ll work on the server-side JavaScript engine that powers custom applications, workflows, and business logic.

Key Missions

• Design and optimize execution engines, including JIT/AOT compilation pipelines
• Build and improve memory management systems to ensure customer apps run at scale
• Develop clean, scalable, reusable code using strong engineering practices (e.g., code reviews, unit testing, solid architecture)
• Mentor colleagues and drive knowledge sharing across teams in low-level systems engineering and performance optimization

Responsibilities

• Optimize runtime execution, profiling, and debugging for systems-level performance
• Manage multiple projects with material technical risk; may act as a functional lead or technical owner

Requirements

• Passion for JavaScript and the Web platform; experience with modern UI frameworks (Angular, React, or Vue)
• Experience developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing relational databases
• 12+ years experience with Java or similar OOP language, including 5+ years in compiler/runtime/JIT/AOT or language execution engines
• Strong background in compiler/runtime systems: execution engines, memory management, concurrency, JIT/AOT, profiling, debugging
• Advanced knowledge of data structures/algorithms, OOP, design patterns, and systems-level performance/scale

Nice to Have

• Experience integrating AI into development workflows/automation using AI-powered tools
• Experience with LLVM or language/runtime development or other low-level systems engineering
• Track record across multiple stacks (Cloud Dev, Platforms, Web Dev, Frameworks, service-oriented architecture)
