Senior/Staff Software Engineer (Platform & Infrastructure)

Role overview

Senior/Staff Software Engineer (Platform & Infrastructure) at ModernFi. You’ll own and evolve the platform and infrastructure reliability posture, lead an advanced release pipeline buildout, and drive security and compliance readiness—directly enabling what the company can safely ship.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical direction of the platform and how the infrastructure operates end-to-end.
• Build and evolve an advanced release pipeline, including:
  • merge/merge-queue style workflows
  • feature flag tooling
  • domain-based publication controls
• Own and improve network reliability posture:
  • observability
  • incident response
  • SLO definition
  • incident/runbook improvements and on-call practices
• Drive security and compliance posture, with a security-first mindset.

Requirements

• Strong end-to-end ownership: from infrastructure provisioning (IaC) to runbooks that recover systems.
• 5+ years software engineering experience, with substantial time in infrastructure/platform/reliability work in production.
• Deep cloud infrastructure fluency (ideally AWS), Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern CI/CD.
• Hands-on observability experience and a track record of establishing monitoring/observability standards that produce actionable insights.
• Experience defining SLOs, writing/learning from postmortems, and improving the on-call experience.
• Excellent communication: explain technical/network topics clearly to non-engineers and leadership.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience as a founding/first Platform Engineer in a fintech environment.
• Security/compliance familiarity, e.g. SOC 2, Vanta, secrets management, key rotation, and least-privilege access.
• Experience working with small, fast-moving teams—improving reliability and speed without adding process drag.
