About the role

Role Overview

Senior/Staff Software Engineer (Interactives) at Brilliant.org. You’ll build the core “building blocks” and APIs that power Brilliant’s interactive learning experiences—puzzle-driven, AI-enabled, and designed to be correct, solvable, and meaningful.

Responsibilities

Create new interactive building blocks that captivate learners and reinforce foundational concepts
Design clear, expressive, and robust APIs for learning designers, AIs, and the learning system
Own technical implementation from idea to launch in cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Content)
Write simple, readable, maintainable code that future engineers can easily extend
Contribute to a culture of excellence within your pod (candor, mutual accountability, balance between velocity and quality)

Requirements

At least 7 years of professional web-focused software engineering experience
Experience aligned with interactive media such as game development, animation, or similar
Motivation to build robust, maintainable software that is interoperable with AI and delivers user/business outcomes
Ability to use the right tools—even unfamiliar ones—and avoid overcomplicated “clever” solutions
Comfort writing code readable by both humans and LLMs
Strong AI-enabled engineering perspective; has used AI tools/workflows to improve productivity

Nice to Have

A strong personal viewpoint on product delight and how tools/products could be improved
Experience with interactive/game-style design thinking and/or animation-driven systems
