Senior Staff ML Engineer

Role Overview

Join Grindr as a Senior Staff ML Engineer (full remote). You’ll architect large-scale recommendation systems, apply LLMs to enhance user connections, and lead technical direction across teams—while evaluating emerging AI tools to keep the platform ahead.

Key Missions

• Architect and oversee large-scale recommendation systems serving millions, balancing performance with innovation.
• Leverage LLMs to process large volumes of conversation data and improve user connections.
• Prototype, iterate, and ship production-ready ML solutions that solve real user problems.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging AI tools and techniques to evolve the tech stack.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and drive adoption of ML systems across organizations.
• Set technical direction and own ML/product outcomes end-to-end (from 0-to-1 through full-scale rollout).
• Lead development of recommendation platforms that meet diverse user needs.
• Collaborate cross-functionally in a fast-paced, outcome-driven environment.

Requirements

• 10+ years building ML systems, with focus on 0-to-1, platform-scale architecture, and creating new capabilities from scratch.
• Strong experience delivering ML systems at scale.
• Fluency in Python and popular ML frameworks.
• Experience with data + deployment technologies: Snowflake, Airflow, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Spark, PySpark.
• Experience building machine/deep learning models with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras (at least one).
• Experience with a public cloud environment: AWS, GCP, or Databricks.
• Ability to build and maintain LLM workflows for nuanced, human-driven tasks.

Nice to Have

• Experience with recommendation systems or similar.
