Senior Staff Frontend Software Engineer (Web Infrastructure)

Role Overview

Join Affirm as a Senior Staff Frontend Software Engineer (Web Infrastructure). You will define and lead the web platform and infrastructure for all web engineering, shape best practices, and drive delivery of critical initiatives. You’ll also mentor senior engineers and partner with architects and product teams across Affirm.

Key Missions

• Define & lead web platform and infrastructure across all frontend/web engineering.
• Shape best practices and drive successful delivery of critical initiatives.
• Mentor & grow a team of senior engineers; build strong relationships with architects and product teams.
• Improve large-scale monorepo build and deploy systems.
• Architect and contribute to decisions on platform, tools, and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Create and drive a technical vision and roadmap for frontend web infrastructure.
• Make system-level platform decisions with attention to both details and the bigger picture.
• Lead critical projects and leverage partner teams for company-wide outcomes.
• Advance design systems, application architecture, CI/CD, observability, performance, and AI tooling for mission-critical web applications.

Requirements

• 10+ years architecting, building, and scaling web apps for large user bases.
• Ability to create and drive a complete technical vision and roadmap.
• Strong communication skills to influence stakeholders and share decisions.
• Experience implementing technical strategy that improved reliability and performance.
• Ownership mindset; ability to influence engineering culture.
• Prior project management and/or people management experience.
• Requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Deep understanding of current/emerging web technologies including React, TypeScript, and modern tooling.

Nice-to-Haves

• Demonstrated success leading initiatives involving monorepo tooling, performance, observability, and design systems.
• Experience with AI tooling integrated into complex web applications.
