Senior Staff Data Scientist

Role overview

Join Palo Alto Networks as a Senior Staff Data Scientist to shape business operations using a mix of classical machine learning and applied AI. You’ll translate business challenges into data science solutions, build predictive models, and help productionize AI capabilities while acting as an internal consultant.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning projects: discovery, development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Build and productionize models for marketing attribution, customer churn, and finance forecasting.
• Manage full project workflow: business problem discovery, feature engineering, model deployment, and performance monitoring.
• Collaborate with marketing and product teams to drive impact and present findings.
• Develop data visualizations and simplify complex processes.
• Evaluate and optimize the performance of AI systems/agents.
• Work with generative AI, including LLMs and relevant frameworks.

Requirements

• SQL proficiency for complex querying, data manipulation, and feature engineering.
• Education + experience equivalent to one of:
  • Bachelor’s degree + 5+ years related experience, or
  • Master’s degree + 3+ years related experience, or
  • PhD in a quantitative field + 1+ years experience.
• Strong foundations in statistics, probability, and common data science algorithms.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying ML models in production.
• Ability to work autonomously, handle ambiguity, and drive projects from concept to completion.
• Experience with generative AI and hands-on work with LLMs and frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Hugging Face.
• Proven expertise in specialized modeling areas such as causal inference, time-series analysis, or marketing mix modeling.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience building dashboards/visualizations with Tableau, Looker, or similar tools.
