Role Overview

Join Hims & Hers as a Senior Staff Backend Engineer to lead organizational-level architectural innovation and strategic technical direction for customer-facing systems.

Key Missions

Define and evolve the architectural vision for customer-oriented systems aligned with business strategy.
Establish patterns and frameworks to ensure quality, resilience, and operational excellence across the organization.
Partner with engineering and product leadership to shape product direction and ensure architecture supports strategic goals.

Responsibilities

Scale shared infrastructure, frameworks, and libraries across multiple teams.
Drive improvements in developer experience, team velocity, and long-term system sustainability.
Lead through complexity and ambiguity; translate customer needs (including clinical needs) into scalable technical solutions.
Mentor and grow senior technical leaders; reinforce a culture of feedback and high technical standards.
Identify and resolve cross-team blockers, scaling constraints, and misaligned priorities.
Balance near-term delivery with long-term scalability, system health, and customer experience.

Requirements

12+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Proven group-level technical leadership and ability to drive architectural clarity across functions.
Experience introducing and scaling shared infrastructure/frameworks/libraries across teams.
Strong CI/CD and operational excellence experience.
Proficiency with CI/CD workflows (e.g., CircleCI, GitHub), cloud infrastructure and containers (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes), and observability (e.g., Datadog).
Experience turning customer and clinical requirements into reliable, maintainable, high-impact systems.
Strong system design expertise for scale and performance.
Experience with Kotlin, Java, or Go.
