Senior Staff AI Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Staff AI Engineer (Full Remote) at Rula. Build durable, production-grade generative AI systems that power patient engagement, provider workflows, and clinical operations in mental healthcare.

Key Missions

• Design and build production generative AI systems at scale.
• Define system architecture and unblock complex engineering problems.
• Act as a technical multiplier for engineers across product surfaces.
• Set technical standards for safety, reliability, and performance.
• Make principal decisions for AI integration in a regulated, high-stakes care environment.

Requirements

• 5+ years deep experience with Python and at least one backend language (JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or Go).
• 2+ years building AI-powered products at scale, including hands-on foundation model experience (OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, Gemini, etc.).
• 10+ years software engineering; 7+ years public cloud (AWS, GCP), 5+ years designing/scaling distributed systems.
• 2+ years in LLM integration patterns/frameworks such as:
  • RAG, function calling, agents, memory routing
  • Or AI orchestration frameworks: LangChain, LlamaIndex, DSPy, Haystack
  • Or vector databases: Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS, Milvus
• 3+ years in MLOps, data pipelines, evaluation, and observability for continuous model improvement.
• Experience architecting secure and compliant AI in regulated environments (HIPAA, GDPR).
• Familiarity with human-in-the-loop and clinical decision support frameworks.
• Experience designing evaluation pipelines for alignment, factual accuracy, and interpretability.

Nice-to-Haves

• Contributions to open-source AI frameworks or applied research in NLP/healthcare AI/GenAI safety.
• Experience leading/mentoring engineering teams in AI/ML platforms or applied research.
• Experience contributing to early-stage (0 → 1) team growth.
