Senior Software Quality Engineer

Role overview

As a Senior Software Quality Engineer at vCluster Labs, you will own the quality strategy for a fast-moving codebase—designing test frameworks, integrating automated testing into CI/CD, and partnering with engineering and product to build reliability into features.

Responsibilities

• Test framework ownership: Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks covering backend services and UI, scalable for rapid product growth.
• Test strategy: Own end-to-end test strategy across services and features, ensuring coverage aligns with product goals.
• Cross-functional influence: Partner with engineering and product early; advocate for testability and align the team on what “quality” means.
• Architectural input: Contribute to architecture/design discussions with a testability and reliability lens before code is written.
• CI/CD integration: Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for fast, high-confidence feedback.
• Exploratory testing: Perform exploratory testing to identify usability issues, edge cases, and regressions.
• Parallel execution: Manage multiple projects in a startup environment while maintaining rigor.

Requirements

• 7+ years in QA/software testing, including 2+ years at a senior or staff level.
• Strong hands-on programming ability in Go, Python, or JavaScript for automation/tooling.
• Daily use of AI tools for PR/design review, test plan creation, and test automation—paired with the judgment to validate when needed.
• Ownership mindset and ability to operate under ambiguity.
• Strong written/verbal communication; able to advocate for quality across teams.
• Deep CI/CD knowledge and hands-on experience integrating test suites into pipelines (GitHub Actions/Jenkins or similar).
• Kubernetes fluency (distributed systems) or strong aptitude to learn quickly.
• Excellent analytical/debugging skills, especially for backend/infrastructure issues.

Bonus points

• Experience testing in tenant cluster / tenant isolation environments.
• Prior experience owning QA through rapid growth at a startup.
