Senior Software Engineer/Web Developer

Role overview

Senior Software Engineer / Web Developer to lead and modernize Acuity’s frontend technology stack as a senior contributor. You will build reusable, accessible UI components and help drive architecture, performance, reliability, and developer workflow improvements across the frontend ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Partner with design, product, engineering, and stakeholders (including business analysts) to understand user needs and propose solutions with architectural impact.
• Plan and scope project work: contribute to effort estimates, timelines, and deliverables.
• Build and maintain scalable, reusable UI components and ensure consistent, accessible user experiences.
• Own and improve CI/CD pipelines for frontend builds, testing, and deployments at scale.
• Research, evaluate, and adopt new technologies, patterns, and efficiencies.
• Strengthen the design system: ensure it is robust, scalable, and well-documented (e.g., Storybook or equivalent) and easy to adopt.
• Enhance applications by fixing bugs, shipping new features, and optimizing performance.
• Perform testing and debugging to ensure code quality, stability, and performance across environments.
• Produce and maintain documentation (technical specs, system diagrams, end-user guides).
• Conduct code reviews and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Mentor engineers through feedback, coaching, and knowledge sharing.
• Direct and manage projects from initiation through delivery (requirements, workflows, task assignment, timelines, development/testing/deployment execution).
• Resolve complex engineering problems and ensure changes adhere to application architecture.
• Stay current with industry best practices and participate in nightly problem-resolution calls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in software engineering, computer science, or related field.
• 5–7 years of software engineering experience (preferably in insurance).
• Strong frontend development using modern frameworks and languages.
• Expertise in version control (Git), build tooling (Vite), and CI/CD (GitLab).
• Testing/automation experience: Playwright, Jest, Vitest (as applicable).
• Observability/tracing: Core Web Vitals / RUM.
• TypeScript ecosystem: ESLint, Prettier, and TypeScript infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Experience with insurance-domain systems.
• Familiarity with Storybook (or an equivalent documentation approach) for a design system.
