Senior Software Engineer, Voice AI

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer (Voice AI) on Toast’s Voice AI team, building and advancing Toast’s restaurant Voice products. You’ll improve the core Voice AI stack and help shape product and business strategies around low-latency voice ordering and voice answering.

Responsibilities

• Design, scope, and implement cutting-edge solutions across the Voice AI stack.
• Raise quality, performance, usability, and scalability standards for the Voice AI product.
• Collaborate with Design and Product to pursue product-market fit.
• Drive discovery of high-impact opportunities and turn them into shipped capabilities.
• Work cross-team to ensure the broader product ecosystem works seamlessly.
• Run experiments, iterate quickly, and innovate at massive scale with high product quality.

Requirements

• 5+ years developing full-stack web applications.
• Backend proficiency in Java/Kotlin and Python.
• Frontend experience with React and CSS frameworks (Tailwind or Bootstrap).
• Experience building on AWS, using Docker and Git.
• Ability to translate high-fidelity UX from Figma into working implementations.
• Strong database and scalable architecture design.
• Interest in AI-based tooling to expand impact and improve workflows.
• Proven experience implementing LLMs and AI inference for real-world applications.
• Collaborative mindset; comfortable shipping features with a team.
• Agile approach: ship quickly, iterate, refine.

Nice-to-Haves

• Deep familiarity with AI-product best practices and evolving approaches to AI inference systems.
• Experience optimizing voice-driven/low-latency AI systems for user-facing products.
