About the role

Role Overview

Join Salesforce’s Ultra Messaging team as a Senior Software Engineer. You’ll work on a mission-critical real-time messaging middleware platform used by major financial institutions.

Responsibilities

Analyze requirements for new features, enhancements, and bug fixes
Review and evaluate the existing codebase and implement necessary changes
Implement primarily in the core C layer, with occasional work in:
- Java via JNI
- .NET via C# API wrappers for cross-platform support
Write and execute tests to ensure reliability and correctness
Collaborate with QA and customer support throughout the development lifecycle
Occasionally engage with customers on complex technical issues
Produce clear requirements and design documents

Requirements

5+ years of production experience writing C or C++
Strong debugging skills and comfort working in complex, unfamiliar codebases
Hands-on experience with multi-threaded programming, including concurrency patterns and thread synchronization primitives
Strong understanding of system-level performance optimization (finding and removing bottlenecks)
Strong written communication skills for requirements and design documentation
Experience with networking protocols, including UDP multicast
Low-level socket programming experience

Nice to Have

Experience with Java and JNI (Java Native Interface)
Performance profiling experience with a systematic performance analysis methodology
Experience with messaging middleware such as Ultra Messaging (UM), Aeron, TIBCO EMS, TIBCO RV, Kafka, or similar
