Senior Software Engineer, Tag Engineering

Role overview

The Tag Engineering team builds Attentive’s first-party data collection platform, which captures ecommerce and user behavior events from customer storefronts. This data powers Attentive’s marketing tools.

You’ll work as an AI-first generalist across browser-side code, edge runtimes, and backend services. The team is small (3–4 engineers), with high autonomy and broad ownership, and the role is remote (US).

What you’ll accomplish

• Own data collection across the full stack
• Work across the JavaScript tag, Cloudflare Workers, and Java backend services to deliver reliable first-party data collection at scale
• Expand edge capabilities using Cloudflare Workers, including:
  • tag serving
  • A/B configuration
  • compute for agentic systems and data analysis
• Build agentic AI systems to improve the quality and volume of collected customer-site data
• Use heuristics and ML models to detect poor data collection for specific customers
• Create workflows that automatically diagnose and fix gaps, reducing manual engineering effort
• Improve the event ingestion pipeline:
  • strengthen backend services that receive, validate, and route events
  • increase reliability and observability so engineers can trace data end-to-end
• Lead technical direction on a small team through proposals, design reviews, and mentorship

Your expertise

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience; proven ability to work across multiple layers of a system
• Backend experience building and operating services in Java, Kotlin, or a similar typed language (API design, data modeling, testing)
• Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript beyond casual use, including reasoning about browser runtime behavior, async patterns, and production performance
• Experience with edge compute/serverless runtimes (e.g., Cloudflare Workers, Lambda@Edge, Fastly) or ability to ramp quickly
• Strong execution experience: led projects from scoping through shipping
