Senior Software Engineer (Search)

Role overview

You’ll be a Senior Software Engineer (Search), focused primarily on frontend development, shaping the Search experience at Flock Safety. You’ll collaborate with backend engineers, product, and design to deliver improvements that matter.

Key missions

• Collaborate with backend engineers, product, and design to shape the future Search experience
• Own larger tasks across multiple repositories, increasing independence over time
• Identify and propose improvements to systems and architecture
• Represent the Search team on cross-functional projects and communicate progress to your manager and teammates

Requirements

• Frontend expertise: 5+ years of professional software development with deep mastery of modern frontend, design patterns, and UI implementation using React and TypeScript
• Data visualization: Experience with mapping libraries (e.g., Mapbox, Google Maps API) and/or complex data visualization on maps
• APIs/backend context: Comfort working with Node.js / Express and strong understanding of API design (e.g., REST, GraphQL, gRPC)
• Microservice awareness: Familiarity with backend microservice concepts and basic SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL) and client-to-service interactions
• Problem solving: Strong ability to operate in ambiguity, take initiative, and learn continuously
• Performance: Experience optimizing frontend performance for high-traffic, data-heavy applications

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with AWS managed services such as S3, API Gateway, and SNS/SQS
• A strong growth mindset and enthusiasm for a fast-paced, constantly evolving product
