About the role

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer at RETR. You’ll be the third engineering hire on a small team and will build software that ships quickly and impacts revenue within the same month.

What You’ll Do

Design, develop, and maintain scalable ASP.NET Core applications and REST APIs using a layered architecture (WebUI → Services → Repositories → NHibernate → SQL Server)
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and technical specifications
Lead and contribute to architecture decisions focused on scalability, performance, and system design
Build and maintain background jobs with Hangfire
Implement integrations with Stripe, Twilio, SendGrid, and Azure services
Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and development issues
Work in an Agile development process
Stay current on emerging technologies and evaluate their impact on the platform

Team / Reporting

3 engineers total; report to the Director of Engineering (who reports to the CTO)—everyone ships and everyone owns.

Required Qualifications

5+ years professional experience with C# and .NET (Core/.NET 5+)
Strong understanding of RESTful API design, layered architecture, and ORM frameworks (NHibernate, EF Core, or similar)
Strong SQL Server experience (complex queries, schema design, performance tuning)
Ability to work across the stack: backend services, Razor/MVC views, and JavaScript (jQuery/Bootstrap)
Experience with Azure services (Blob Storage, Key Vault, SignalR) or equivalent cloud platforms
Strong source control and delivery practices (Git, code review, and DevOps experience)
Creative problem solver with strong listening, logic, and critical thinking
Team player committed to helping others succeed

Mobile app development experience

Compensation & Benefits

$150,000–$170,000 base salary (US national band, no geo-adjustment)
Fully remote; US-based
