Senior Software Engineer - REDAPL Graph Engine

Role overview

Datadog is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help take REDAPL (Datadog’s Referential Data Platform) to the next level. REDAPL tracks customers’ infrastructure resources and relationships and powers products such as Cloud Security Posture Management, Resource Catalog, Cloud Cost Management, and Service Catalog.

Responsibilities

• Build a query engine supporting efficient relationship traversals for demanding workloads.
• Design and drive high-priority projects to improve value, resilience, and scalability across multiple teams.
• Lead and guide engineering through key architectural platform decisions.
• Identify system risks and reliability trends, and design solutions to address them.
• Provide input into engineering-led initiative prioritization for short- and long-term planning and roadmaps.
• Partner with internal product teams to understand requirements and support product growth as they integrate with REDAPL.

Requirements

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience with multiple data stores.
• Several years contributing to a platform/infrastructure-focused environment.
• Proven leadership of impactful technical initiatives with first-order concerns around performance, cost efficiency, and resilience/operability.
• Strong back-end engineering experience; built and operated distributed systems at high scale.

Bonus points

• Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, Memgraph, JanusGraph, ArangoDB, Amazon Neptune, or PuppyGraph).
• Production-grade experience with Apache Iceberg.
• Strong grasp of query planning and/or contributions to production query engines (e.g., Trino, Calcite, Substrait, DataFusion), ideally via open-source contributions or PMC membership.
