About the role

Role Overview

Senior Software Engineer (Protocol) working on core Ethereum L2 protocol specifications and clients for the OP Stack, and related enterprise capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Own protocol features end-to-end: architecture, implementation, documentation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to maximize impact.
  • Create rigorous conformance and adversarial tests to ensure compatibility.
  • Execute safe protocol upgrades and troubleshoot complex availability/performance issues.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining high standards for correctness, security, reviews, and technical ownership.

What You’ll Work On (Near-Term)

  • Develop kona-node and related Rust consensus-client infrastructure as a production-ready alternative to op-node.
  • Implement native account abstraction across the stack.
  • Build premium protocol capabilities supporting OP Enterprise (enabling institutions to launch and operate OP Stack chains).

Requirements

  • Proven track record shipping production software, including maintainable Rust systems.
  • Deep knowledge of Ethereum concepts (EVM, JSON-RPC, clients) and distributed systems.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and communicate complex design decisions.

Preferred / Bonus

  • Familiarity with op-node, kona, or Reth.
  • Ability to read and navigate production Go code while migrating behavior into Rust.
  • Bonus: proficiency in Solidity for system-level smart contracts.
