About the role

Role Overview

Join Clera’s Platform team as a Senior Software Engineer to build the data foundation behind AI-driven analytics. This is a high-ownership, zero-to-one role on a small team, focused on enabling trustworthy, agentic querying of enterprise data.

What You’ll Do

Agentic Semantic Layer:
- Build the semantic layer that gives AI agents the context to query enterprise data correctly.
- Add guardrails to prove results and improve trust in AI-generated analytics.
Distributed Agent Orchestration:
- Design and implement orchestration for agents interacting with external systems.
- Cover API integrations, rate limiting, OAuth passthrough, model routing, scheduling, and token optimization.
Agentic Data Engineering:
- Architect AI-centric ETL pipelines for data lakehouses.
- Make large-scale analytics accessible with minimal effort from data engineering teams.
Contribute across infrastructure, services, or frontend as the product evolves.

What We’re Looking For

Required

4+ years of hands-on experience as a backend or platform engineer building scalable distributed systems.
Strong Golang proficiency (hard requirement).
Experience with gRPC/ConnectRPC, Trino, Kubernetes, DuckDB, and PostgreSQL in a distributed data platform environment.
Strong computer science fundamentals.
Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering or comparable practical experience.
Startup experience: early-stage, VC-backed environment or proven ability to build from zero to one.
Familiarity with data visualization, data engineering, data modeling, and big data technologies.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with semantic layers, ontologies, or metadata management.
Experience with AI/ML infrastructure or LLM orchestration patterns.
Comfort owning work across infrastructure/services/frontend as needed.

Compensation & Location

$200,000 – $350,000 USD annually
Visa sponsorship available
On-site in New York City (Financial District), full-time in-office. No remote or fully distributed option.
