About the role

Role: Senior Software Engineer

Senior individual contributor responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality, scalable, secure, and reliable software for Pearson’s Higher Education Digital (HED) products and platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-scale applications and services.
  • Lead complex technical initiatives across multiple systems, services, and engineering teams.
  • Ensure solutions meet high standards for quality, security, performance, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Influence architecture and design decisions; provide technical recommendations.
  • Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including:
    • CI/CD, automated testing
    • DevOps and observability
    • cloud-native architectures
  • Use AI-assisted development tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity and solution quality.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Quality Engineering, and Operations to deliver business outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership through code/design reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues with root-cause analysis and preventative improvements.
  • Identify and proactively communicate risks, dependencies, and technical challenges.
  • Deliver realistic estimates and meet commitments.
  • Contribute to platform modernization, cloud migration, scalability, security, and reliability initiatives.
  • Support operational excellence through incident management/production support when needed.

Managerial / Leadership Expectations

  • No direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Expected to provide technical leadership, mentorship, coaching, and guidance as a subject matter expert.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related.
  • 8+ years professional software engineering experience for enterprise-scale applications/services.
  • Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
  • Experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting cloud-native applications.
  • Experience working in Agile environments (cut off in posting, but stated as Agile).
