Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer on Pearson’s Enterprise Learning & Skills (ELS) team. You will help build, scale, and evolve a global, API-driven platform used to issue and verify digital credentials.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails services and APIs with modern JavaScript/React frontends; ensure quality, performance, and reliability.
- Own significant parts of the platform, and lead end-to-end design and delivery of complex, well-scoped features.
- Write clear, maintainable, well-tested code, reduce complexity, and pay down technical debt.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
- Evolve the platform by standing up new services and capabilities, including work across adjacent codebases and domains.
- Partner with external vendors, Product, and Customer Success to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Use AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, and debugging while applying strong engineering judgment.
- Promote and follow secure, scalable, cloud-native web application best practices.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience.
- Proficiency with the core stack: Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL.
- Proven ability to make high-impact technical decisions in complex production environments; ship well-tested code; provide constructive code reviews.
- Strong cross-functional communication with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with software architecture, system design, and scalability.
- Experience with mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
- Hands-on experience with distributed/service-oriented systems and asynchronous, event-driven communication.
- Ability to work across multiple codebases and ramp quickly.
- Comfortable using AI tools responsibly (validate outputs; know when to rely vs. verify).
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience deploying/operating production workloads on AWS and Azure.
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
- Experience integrating with or building alongside third-party/vendor-delivered services.
- Strong web application security fundamentals and a record of improving security across a codebase.
- Experience with design systems/component libraries and advanced frontend tooling.
- Experience with scalability, resilience, or performance at scale.
- Experience with messaging/event streaming systems such as Apache Pulsar or Apache Kafka.
Location
- Denver, CO (additional compensation details not fully shown in the provided text).
