Senior Software Engineer, Mobile

Role Overview

Thrive Market is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Mobile for a foundational hire within a net-new mobile product engineering group focused on Personalization, AI, and ML enablement. You will own the full mobile experience across iOS and Android, building native features and integrating them with backend services and APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design and build native mobile features using Swift/SwiftUI (iOS) and Kotlin (Android) with strong performance, accessibility, and polish.
• Integrate backend services via REST/RPC APIs to deliver personalized, data-driven experiences.
• Work with and modernize legacy mobile codebases (Objective-C on iOS, Java on Android) and evolve them toward modern frameworks and patterns.
• Decompose tightly coupled architectures into modular, testable, maintainable components.
• Apply strong engineering practices including test-driven development, with unit tests, UI tests, and meaningful observability.
• Collaborate in the Product Triad (Product, Design, Data) to translate business problems into technical specs and realistic sprint goals.
• Instrument mobile experiences with meaningful metrics and own reliability and performance SLAs.
• Improve the team through code reviews, architectural discussions, and documentation of mobile best practices.
• Partner cross-functionally to diagnose and resolve production issues, including crash triage and release health monitoring.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on mobile engineering experience (or equivalent at a hyperscaling company), with meaningful production time on both iOS and Android.
• Strong Swift and SwiftUI skills; solid Kotlin experience.
• Experience building and consuming REST and RPC APIs from mobile clients at scale.
• Working knowledge of mobile CI/CD, app distribution, and release management (TestFlight, Play Console).
• Familiarity with mobile data persistence: Core Data, Room, Realm, SQLite.
• Mobile observability experience using tools such as Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog, New Relic, or similar.
• Ability to work in and modernize legacy iOS/Android codebases (Objective-C, Java).
• Strong communication skills and ability to articulate tradeoffs and influence architecture decisions.
